Hunger games will never be as good as HP or Twilight. ew.
You know, usually I don’t respond to Anons but I will make an exception this one time. I have not seen the movies Twilight or Hunger Games, but I have read all the Hunger Games books and read some of Twilight.
Twilight is a book, in my opinion, that does not deserve to be popular. Believe me when I say I am all for a good love story, but when the author creates a main character which is an empty shell it makes me wonder: how can anyone fall in love with an empty shell? Her appearance isn’t described in detail; that way, any female can slip into it and easily fantasize about being this person. I read 400 pages of the first book and barely had any idea of what the main character looked like; as far as I was concerned she was a giant Lego brick. Appearance aside, her personality is portrayed as insecure, fumbling, and awkward - a combination anyone who ever went through puberty can relate to. By creating this ‘empty shell,’ the character becomes less of a person and more of something a female reader can put on and wear (like a shirt for example.)
Hunger Games, on the other hand, completely deserves to be a popular adolescent teen novel. The main character is fantastic. She is brave, just, family-orientated and has so many other respectable qualities. I found the novel’s pace to be intense and fulfilling, in comparison to Twilight (I’m hoping the movie is just as intense.)
